Improving the Climate for Clinical Trials in Florida

Recommendation

The Advisory Council recommends that FL CURED, in cooperation with other relevant organizations, convene one or more meetings to address the related issues of IRB review and research contract language to facilitate clinical trials and other biomedical research in Florida. The primary target audience should include: IRB professionals from Florida's universities and hospitals, biomedical researchers, legal professionals, research administrators, and other stakeholders in the area of contract language for biomedical research trials.

The Advisory Council also recommends that the Legislature create an "IRB Accreditation Assistance" mini-grant funding portfolio for academic institutions applying for AAHRPP accreditation for the first time. This investment would pay tremendous dividends by building infrastructure for the ethically sound conduct of high-quality biomedical research.
