Health Disparities Research

Recommendation

Considering the very positive reviews of the initial gathering, the Advisory Council recommends that FL CURED continue its partnership with DOH’s OMH and BRAC to advance the health disparities research programs in Florida so that it ranks among national leaders in this crucial focus area.

The Advisory Council further recommends that future meetings/summits include community-oriented research professionals, other community leaders, and healthcare providers to ensure that a culturally aware and socially compassionate approach is taken to engage high-need populations.

Finally, the Advisory Council recommends exploring opportunities for partnerships between academic institutions and nonprofit organizations (e.g. the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Blue Foundation, the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, etc.) as a means of expanding health disparities research capacity in Florida to address these important issues.
